AARP FOUNDATION TAX AIDE
The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide service offers free tax preparation help to anyone and if you’re 50 and older, and can’t afford a tax preparation service, we were made especially for you. We understand that retirement or other life changes may mean your taxes are a little more complicated now. With the help of our team of IRS-certified volunteers, we make it easy for you.
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide has locations in neighborhood libraries, malls, banks, community centers, and senior centers. There’s no fee and no sales pitch for other services and AARP membership is not required. Mercer County residents can access this service simply by dialling 2-1-1 or using the alternate phone number 888-665-6923, or by visiting the www.pa211sw.org website.
Those seeking assistance should take these items to their appointments: Photo ID, Social Security card or 1099SSA for the taxpayer, spouse, and dependents; birth dates for dependents listed on the tax return; wage and earning statements including W-2 and 1099 forms and other relevant materials showing income for 2016; copies of 2015 federal and state returns; proof of bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit of tax refunds; 1095 health care (Affordable Care Act) forms, if any; and, if applicable, the total paid for day care and the day-care provider’s identification number.
Please note, that volunteers will no longer visit homebound residents. Those taxpayers must make arrangements for someone to take their information to their appointment, take the completed return form back to them for a signature, and then return to the site for electronic filing.
