“This is my way of giving back to the community, and United Way does so much for the community that I feel this was the best way to fulfill that need.”

VOLUNTEERING WITH UNITED WAY LIFTS PEOPLE OUT OF POVERTY
Congratulations for taking the first step in becoming a volunteer! At the United Way of Mercer County, volunteers are a significant part of the social service team. By volunteering with UWMC, you actually assist 26 agencies simultaneously.
Office Volunteers: UWMC often needs help with day-to-day clerical and administrative duties at the office in Hermitage.
Special Events Volunteers: Duties are as varied as the events themselves – you might pass out tee shirts, assist attendees in completing a sign-in sheet, or make use of your special talent (DJ, airbrush painter, ice sculptor, etc.). Major United Way fund-raising events occur during evening hours or on weekends.
Allocation Volunteers: Needed to work as part of a team to perform agency assessment program reviews of United Way affiliate agencies seeking program funding. This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the nonprofit agencies that receive support from your United Way of Mercer County contributions. Allocations Volunteers are crucial in the decision-making process for program funding. The total time commitment ranges from 5-8 hours, beginning in January of each year and finishing up in March. A training session is provided.
Campaign Volunteers: Volunteers are needed for our annual campaign. As a campaign volunteer, you are responsible for contacting five local businesses during August and December to request their support in our annual appeal. United Way staff and campaign co-chairs work with you on this every step of the way.
